Jet Ferro was founded in 1975 by Knopp Ferro with his brother Rolf Hinterecker, as well as fellow artists and fellow students Fritz Esch and Michael Wolf in Cologne. At that time, the city vibrated with an atmosphere of awakening and upheaval. Artists like Joseph Beuys and Wolf Vostell staged happenings in the city, making a great impression on the young artists.
The name "Jet Ferro" is made up of "Jet" from "Jet Star", a fast-paced ride at the fair. For the artists, it represented movement, speed, and the fascination of aircraft. "Ferro" comes from the Latin word for iron–the material from which Jet Ferro welded the backdrops for their performances–distorted furnishings, everyday objects or entire rooms. They satirized the rising pop and rock culture with its star cult and deliberately turned away from the emerging art market, which was primarily concerned with painting and sculpture. Beuys' credo “Buy art from an artist” also played in with their ideas.
The happenings combined art with the physical in an experimental way and with great relish; every new concept of expressing art was experimentally included. Music also became an important medium as part of the happening. The group discovered punk as a way of conveying emotions.

Jet Ferro collaborated very successfully for four years, despite their rejection of the art market and its mechanisms. They have been seen at the Documenta 6 in Kassel / Germany, as well as in the TV in Germany. Then they wanted to take a break, but no further collaboration took place.
